The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has warned judges across the country against allowing politicians to manipulate the judicial system for undue advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She gave the warning on Monday at the opening of the 2026 roundtable for heads of courts, organised by the National Judicial Institute in Abuja.
She urged heads of courts to remain vigilant against forum shopping, concealment of related cases and attempts to obtain conflicting orders from courts of equal jurisdiction.
Justice Kekere-Ekun said election-related disputes often attract public pressure, stressing that judges must remain impartial and apply the Constitution, the Electoral Act and relevant court rules without political interference.
She also called for proper administrative arrangements to ensure the timely handling of election cases, warning that attempts to abuse judicial processes could undermine public confidence in the judiciary.
