Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the victory of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Davido had actively campaigned for Adeleke throughout the election period and repeatedly expressed confidence that the incumbent governor would secure victory at the polls.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was on Sunday declared the winner after polling 511,067 votes across the state.
The State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, announced the final result at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday.
Ogunwole subsequently declared Adeleke elected for another term in office.
Adeleke defeats Oyebamiji
The incumbent governor defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes.
According to the results announced by the Returning Officer, Adeleke won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11 LGAs.
Adeleke recorded major victories in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo, among other local government areas.
Oyebamiji won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun, among other LGAs.
INEC announces final Osun election figures.
Announcing the final figures, Ogunwole said 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election.
He added that the total number of valid votes was 985,079, while 20,721 votes were rejected.
The total votes cast stood at 1,005,800.
The Returning Officer said the agents of the participating political parties signed the results before the final declaration was made.
He said Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore declared the winner of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
«“That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election and returned elected,” Ogunwole declared.»
Davido celebrates Adeleke’s victoryDavido had remained one of the most visible supporters of his uncle during the Osun governorship campaign.
The singer, who has consistently used his platform to rally support for Adeleke, had expressed optimism that the governor would retain his position.
Following the declaration, Davido was pictured embracing his uncle in celebration of the electoral victory.
The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salaam, finished third in the election.
The result means Adeleke will continue as governor of Osun State after securing a fresh mandate from voters in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
