Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, over his assurance that security agencies would remain neutral during the 2027 general elections.
Sowore accused the minister of being partisan in favour of President Bola Tinubu, questioning his ability to guarantee a level playing field for all political parties during the polls.
In a post on X, the activist described Musa as a “retired loudmouth” and accused him of failing in his responsibilities as a serving military general.
He urged the defence minister to focus on tackling insecurity across the country rather than making promises about the 2027 elections.
Sowore wrote, “This retired loudmouth, Christopher Musa, who failed in his duties as a serving General in the Nigerian Army is now here promising free and fair elections in 2027, when he is, in fact, a partisan hack for Tinubu. He should leave 2027 alone and face insecurity.”
The criticism followed Musa’s meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, where he assured Nigerians that security agencies would act professionally during the forthcoming elections.
The minister, who was accompanied by heads of security agencies, said the meeting was convened to brief the President on the country’s security situation ahead of the polls.
According to Musa, Tinubu wants the 2027 elections to be free, fair and credible, with security operatives ensuring that voters can exercise their democratic rights without intimidation.
However, Sowore’s reaction raised questions about the neutrality of security agencies and their preparedness to guarantee a credible electoral process.
