The Special Adviser to the Ekiti State Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Princess Adetoun Agboola, has received the newly crowned Queen Moremi of the South West Association of the Deaf (SWAD), Queen Abiodun Idowu Wonderful, in her office.

Queen Abiodun, who hails from Ekiti State, emerged winner of the regional pageant held on August 6, 2026, at the Badagry Grammar School Hall, Lagos State.

The competition featured 12 contestants, with two representatives from each of the six South-West states: Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos.

The Ekiti contestant clinched the prestigious crown after recording the highest score in the competition, following her outstanding cultural dance performance, impressive responses during the question-and-answer session and display of confidence throughout the event.

She was accompanied to the Special Adviser’s office by prominent female leaders in the deaf community, including Mrs. Omoniyi Omotanwa Obadare, a member of the Ekiti State Disability Board, and Mrs. Omoboja Ogunkuade, a former Woman Leader of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), among others.

Receiving the queen, Princess Agboola congratulated Queen Abiodun on her achievement and commended the female deaf leaders for their dedication to mentoring and supporting persons with disabilities in the state.

She assured the delegation of the continued support of the Ekiti State Government through her office, noting that the Governor would be delighted to see persons with disabilities from the state excelling in their respective fields.

Princess Agboola further highlighted the contributions of Ekiti’s disability community to the state’s achievements, recalling that athletes with disabilities won the state’s only gold medals at the last National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.

She also commended students of the Government Special Schools in Ido-Ekiti and Ikoro-Ekiti for their outstanding performances in state art competitions.She specifically mentioned Mr. Eniola Awelewa, who represented Ekiti at the national level and secured fourth place in the competition.

The visit and the achievements of the deaf community underscore the Ekiti State Government’s commitment to social inclusion, empowerment and the recognition of the accomplishments of persons with disabilities.
