Ekiti Govt Disowns Sowore’s Alleged Attack, Calls for Police Probe.

The Ekiti State Government has dissociated itself from the alleged attack on African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at a food outlet in Ado-Ekiti, insisting that it had no involvement in the incident.

The government also called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation, identify those responsible for the alleged attack and ensure they are brought to justice.

In a statement issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Olayinka Oyebode, the government dismissed allegations linking it to the incident, describing the claims as unfounded.

The government said it considered it necessary to address the allegations to prevent members of the public from being misled, despite its decision to ordinarily ignore what it described as Sowore’s history of making unfounded claims and launching media attacks against the state government.

It noted that the organisers of the Ikogosi Marathon and the Ekiti State Police Command had issued official statements on the incident, adding that the circumstances surrounding Sowore’s visit and the reported altercation should be left to the appropriate authorities to investigate.

The statement described as absurd the suggestion that a state known for the peaceful conduct of its recent governorship campaign and election would resort to harassing or intimidating a presidential candidate.

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining Ekiti State’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, stressing that its administration remained guided by the rule of law, democratic principles and tolerance for diverse political and social views.

It further assured residents and visitors of its commitment to protecting their rights and safety, irrespective of their political affiliations or opinions.

The statement concluded by urging the police to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident and bring anyone found culpable to justice.
