The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists and recovered a single-barrel gun, a live cartridge and a substance suspected to be an illicit drug in Iyin-Ekiti.

The suspects, identified as 28-year-old Felix Joshua and 30-year-old Adebisi Jamiu, were arrested during a routine patrol and stop-and-search operation along University Road, Iyin-Ekiti.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the incident occurred on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m.

According to him, operatives attached to the Iyin-Ekiti Divisional Police Headquarters reportedly intercepted an unregistered motorcycle carrying the two suspects after they were considered suspicious.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of one live cartridge and a substance suspected to be an illicit drug.

Following the discovery, police operatives searched the suspects’ residences and recovered a single-barrel gun.

The two suspects, both said to be residents of Awo Road, Iyin-Ekiti, have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael.

The police said the investigation would determine the source and intended use of the recovered firearm and ammunition, as well as the suspected illicit substance.

The investigation will also establish the suspects’ alleged involvement in cult-related activities and identify other persons who may be connected to the case.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive patrols and stop-and-search operations aimed at tackling cultism, illegal possession of firearms and other criminal activities across Ekiti State.

CP Falade urged residents to provide credible information to the police to help identify and apprehend suspected criminals in their communities.

The Ekiti Police Command said its operations would continue as part of efforts to strengthen security and protect residents across the state.

It is expected that the recent clampdown on Cultists in the state will send a strong signal to those who engage in such groups to desist from doing so.
