FG APPROVES N70,000 MONTHLY TRANSPORT SUPPORT FOR WORKERS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a monthly transport support of ₦70,000 for public service workers across all levels for six months, beginning in November 2026, to cushion the impact of rising living costs.

The approval was one of the resolutions reached at a conciliation meeting between the Federal Government and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja on Tuesday.

The meeting was led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, following renewed pressure from organised labour over the rising cost of living, workers’ welfare and outstanding agreements.

The Federal Government also approved the payment of peculiar allowance arrears, effective from May 1, 2026, in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November.

In another resolution, the government agreed with the NLC to constitute a Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee, which is expected to commence meetings immediately to determine an effective date for implementing a new national minimum wage.

The latest meeting followed an earlier conciliation session held on October 22, 2026, convened by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to address disagreements between the government and organised labour.

The resolutions are aimed at addressing workers’ concerns over the rising cost of living and improving their welfare amid ongoing economic pressures.
