Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for increased investment in rural women through improved access to land, finance, training, technology and markets.
She said empowering rural women would strengthen food security, accelerate economic growth and promote sustainable community development.
Mrs Tinubu made the call in a message commemorating the 2026 International Day of Rural Women, observed globally on October 15.
She described rural women as vital contributors to agricultural production, food security and the growth of local economies.
The First Lady noted that this year’s celebration was particularly significant as it coincided with the International Year of the Woman Farmer, aimed at highlighting women’s contributions to agriculture and food systems.
She urged governments and other stakeholders to address the barriers limiting rural women’s access to productive resources and economic opportunities.
Mrs Tinubu said investing in women farmers would improve their productivity, enhance family prosperity and strengthen communities.
She congratulated rural women across the country, commending their resilience, dedication and contributions to the well-being of families and national development.
