The Nigeria Democratic Congress will on Monday unveil its National Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections and present its financial statement at its third National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.
The party will also present certificates of return to its candidates contesting the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
The NEC meeting is scheduled for 10am at the JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.
The NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
Director said a major highlight of the meeting would be the presentation of the party’s Statement of Account by the National Treasurer, describing it as evidence of the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
He challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress, to emulate the NDC’s approach to financial transparency.
According to him, the party’s finances would have been stronger but for the economic hardship in the country, which he blamed on the APC-led Federal Government.
He claimed that about 80 per cent of the party’s candidates were unable to afford the Expression of Interest forms due to poverty, hunger and deprivation, forcing the party to provide the forms to them free of charge.
Director said the campaign council would cover all levels of the party’s candidates, including the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state legislative contests.
He added that the unveiling would help consolidate the party’s campaign structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development follows the postponement of the campaign council’s inauguration, which was initially scheduled for October 20.
