Oyebanji’s Second Term Targets 1,500km Rural Roads

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, is set to prioritise the construction of 1,500 kilometres of rural roads as part of his second-term development agenda.

The Chairman of the Second Term Inauguration Planning Committee and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Oyeniyi Adebayo, disclosed this on Friday during a press conference in Ado-Ekiti ahead of the October 16 inauguration.

Adebayo said the project was identified during consultative tours across the three senatorial districts, alongside other priority areas including healthcare, electricity, water, agriculture and youth empowerment.

He said the second term, themed “The Good Work Continues,” would focus on consolidating the administration’s first-term achievements while introducing new initiatives to boost the state’s economy and improve residents’ welfare.

Highlighting the first-term scorecard, Adebayo said the administration completed over 500 kilometres of inter-city and rural roads, commenced the commercial operation of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport and restored electricity to some communities that had experienced prolonged outages.

He also listed the renovation and equipping of over 110 Primary Healthcare Centres, the turnaround of 203 secondary and 950 primary schools, and the payment of N2.158 billion in WAEC fees for 69,000 students.

In agriculture and youth empowerment, Adebayo said more than 5,000 youths were engaged in commercial farming, while government also provided credit, grants and other forms of support to MSMEs, farmers and small businesses.

He said the second-term inauguration would showcase the administration’s achievements and set the tone for further development under the Shared Prosperity Agenda.
