President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the 2026 governorship election as a strong indication that democracy will continue to flourish in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu disclosed that he personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory.

The President said the election result reflected the confidence the people of Osun State have in Adeleke, urging the governor to use his second term to unite the people irrespective of their political affiliations.

Tinubu also charged Adeleke to focus on growth, stability and socio-economic development as he begins another term in office.

The President commended the other candidates who participated in the election, describing their participation as a demonstration of courage and discipline that contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture.

He also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.

Adeleke Defeats Oyebamiji With 511,067 Votes.

Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, was declared winner at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday by the State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.

The governor secured 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.

The result gives Adeleke a second term as governor of Osun State, following his victory in the 2022 governorship election, which he won on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 election.

Adeleke Endorses Tinubu for 2027.

Earlier on Sunday, Adeleke thanked President Tinubu for congratulating him on his re-election and reaffirmed his endorsement of the President for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

The Osun governor described Tinubu as a son of Osun State, signalling continued political alignment between the two leaders despite their different party platforms in the governorship contest.

The President’s comments come as political stakeholders continue to assess the outcome of the Osun governorship election and its implications for Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
