Tinubu Hails Team Nigeria’s 24-Medal Performance at Commonwealth Games.

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Team Nigeria for its outstanding performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where the country won a total of 24 medals.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the athletes for securing 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, describing the achievement as a testament to their resilience, discipline and determination.

Tinubu commended all members of the Nigerian contingent, including athletes, coaches, technical officials, medical personnel and administrators, for representing the nation with pride and honour throughout the competition.

The President also applauded the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the National Sports Commission for their efforts in supporting athletes and advancing sports development in the country.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the sports sector, Tinubu pledged continued investment in sports infrastructure, athlete development and institutional reforms aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness on the global stage.

According to him, the experience gained by Team Nigeria in Glasgow will serve as a foundation for greater achievements in future international competitions and inspire young Nigerians to pursue excellence through sports.

Team Nigeria concluded the Games with 24 medals, matching the country’s total at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

However, the tally was lower than the 35 medals won in Birmingham in 2022 and the 36 medals secured at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, also hosted in Glasgow.
