President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate and coordinated rescue operation following the mass abduction of worshippers in Niger State.
President Bola Tinubu has condemned the recent mass abduction in Niger State, describing the attackers as “enemies of peace and enemies of humanity,” while directing security agencies to take immediate action to rescue the victims.
The directive was disclosed on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement issued by the State House.
Tinubu expressed condolences to the families of those reportedly killed during the attack and assured them that the Federal Government would continue efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted victims.
«“Those who carried out this cowardly attack on defenceless Nigerians are enemies of peace and enemies of humanity, who will not go scot-free,” the President said.»
He added that the government would not rest until the abducted Nigerians were safely reunited with their families.
Tinubu Directs Security Agencies to Rescue Abductees
The President directed the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and other relevant security and intelligence agencies to launch a coordinated rescue operation.
Tinubu also assured the people of Niger State that the Federal Government would provide the necessary support to strengthen security, aid recovery efforts and provide relief to affected communities.
“Terror will not cow Nigeria. We will defend our people, protect our communities, and uphold the sanctity of human life,” he said.
Worshippers Abducted During Jumat Prayers
The mass abduction occurred at Kpenya Mosque in Gidan-Zana, Kpenya village, Dekara District, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to reports, terrorists invaded the mosque at about 2pm on Friday while Muslim worshippers were observing Jumat prayers.
The attackers reportedly abducted several worshippers, including women, children and elderly residents. Some residents were also said to have fled into a nearby forest to escape the attackers.
Among those reportedly abducted was the village head of Ka’ada, who had recently been released after spending time in captivity.
The 90-year-old father of the District Head of Dekar was also reportedly taken during the attack.
The latest directive from President Tinubu comes amid growing concerns over insecurity and kidnapping in parts of Nigeria, with security agencies under renewed pressure to protect vulnerable communities and secure the release of abducted citizens.
