Nigerian gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori appears to have taken a step towards reconciliation with veteran gospel musician Tope Alabi after five years of strained relations.
Alaseyori signalled a possible end to their long-standing rift on Tuesday when she celebrated Alabi’s birthday in a post on Instagram.
Sharing a photograph of the veteran singer, Alaseyori wrote: “Happy birthday Ma L/Evang @tope_alabi_ and congratulations on your new age.“Sufficient grace, strength and mercy we pray for you, ma.
Best of God this day and beyond ma.”The birthday message has sparked hopes of reconciliation between the two gospel ministers, who have not been publicly associated with each other since their disagreement in June 2021.
The controversy began when Alabi criticised Alaseyori’s hit song, Oniduro Mi, which translates to “My Guarantor.”
Alabi reportedly questioned the description of God as a guarantor, arguing that the term did not adequately reflect His greatness and power.
Her comments generated widespread reactions on social media, with some Christians accusing her of jealousy over Alaseyori’s growing popularity.
Following the incident, the two singers reportedly stopped celebrating each other on social media and were no longer seen together publicly.
Their apparent distance persisted despite repeated calls from fans for them to settle their differences.
Alaseyori’s birthday message to Alabi may therefore mark a significant step towards rebuilding their relationship, although neither singer has publicly confirmed a full reconciliation.
