Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to declare a state of emergency on corruption, electricity, and education if elected president in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a political gathering, the former Anambra State governor outlined key policy priorities aimed at steering the nation out of economic hardship, widespread poverty, and energy deficits.
He asserted that the 2027 presidential election represents a crucial turning point for Nigeria, warning that persistent corruption and infrastructure failures continue to stifle national growth.
Obi highlighted his plan to boost power generation significantly, pledging an initial target of 10,000 megawatts of electricity to stimulate industrial output and support small businesses.
“Public money must be used for public good. That is why I am making my commitment: we will be open, accountable, and put an immediate stop to the theft of state funds,” Obi declared, emphasizing that anti-corruption measures will form the cornerstone of his proposed administration.
In addition to addressing the power sector and systemic corruption, Obi committed to allocating a minimum of 20 percent of available credit to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) alongside temporary tax relief to drive job creation and support local entrepreneurs.
The NDC standard-bearer urged voters across the country to defend the integrity of their votes ahead of 2027, describing the upcoming ballot as a peaceful yet vital revolution for good governance and institutional reform.
