The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to strictly adhere to its published timetable for the 2027 general elections, insisting that electoral rules must apply equally to all political parties.
The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, made the call while receiving a pre-election fact-finding mission of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Yilwatda said the electoral process must be fair, transparent and predictable, warning against any adjustment of deadlines that could give a political party an undue advantage.
He disclosed that the APC had inaugurated its campaign council, commenced campaign activities and uploaded its candidates to INEC’s portal, adding that the party had presented candidates for all the positions it intended to contest.
The APC chairman also claimed that the party had about 13 million registered members nationwide, alongside more than 261,000 executive members from the ward to the national level.
He said the party had 31 governors, 88 senators and 208 members of the House of Representatives.
Yilwatda, however, stressed that the APC’s political strength should not be used to suppress opposition parties, insisting that all political parties must have equal access to the media, campaign venues and other legitimate platforms to present their programmes to Nigerians.
