EKITI MAKES TOP THREE IN 2026 NATIONAL PENSION AWARDS

Ekiti State has emerged as one of the top three finalists for the 2026 National Pension Awards in the State of the Year in the Implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme category.

The nomination by the National Pension Commission (PenCom) recognises the state’s efforts in adopting, implementing and sustaining the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to promote a sustainable pension system and protect retirees’ financial security.

The nomination was announced in a letter signed by the Acting Director of PenCom’s States Operations Department, Mr Akinsola Adeseun.

According to the Commission, Ekiti State’s pension management practices stood out in promoting pension reforms and ensuring a sustainable system for workers after retirement.

In the letter, PenCom described the nomination as recognition of the remarkable progress recorded by the Ekiti State Government in implementing the scheme.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the winner would be announced at the award presentation ceremony scheduled for Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

The nomination is considered a boost for the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, particularly in its commitment to the prompt remittance of workers’ pension contributions, regular payment of pensions and the long-term financial stability of retirees.

The National Pension Awards recognise efforts towards strengthening pension administration and promoting the effective implementation of pension reforms across Nigeria.
