FIVE MINERS DIE AFTER SEPARATE MINE COLLAPSES IN TURKEY

Five miners have died following separate mine accidents in Turkey, including a collapse that trapped workers underground in the western province of Manisa.

Three bodies were recovered on Friday from a mine in the Soma district of Manisa, bringing the death toll from the collapse to five.

Authorities said seven workers were caught in the incident, with two miners rescued and taken to hospital while five others were initially trapped.

Rescue teams recovered the bodies of two miners shortly after the collapse before returning to the site to search for the remaining three workers.

Their bodies were recovered early Friday, bringing the total number of fatalities from the incident to five.

The Turkish authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse. Justice Minister Akin Gรผrlek ordered an inquiry, while nine company executives, including the manager of the mineโ€™s operator, were reportedly detained on suspicion of negligence.

In a separate incident, another miner was killed on Friday when an unlicensed mine collapsed in Kilimli, a town on Turkeyโ€™s northwestern Black Sea coast, according to local media reports.

The Soma district has previously witnessed Turkeyโ€™s deadliest mining disaster. In 2014, 301 miners died following an underground fire triggered by an explosion at a coal mine in the area.
