The Nigerian Navy has warned members of the public against fake Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) recruitment notices circulating on social media.

The warning was issued by the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abi Folorunsho, in a statement posted on his official X handle on Tuesday.

Folorunsho said the circulating notices, which purportedly advertise recruitment into DSSC Course 30 across fields including medicine, engineering, law and information and communication technology, did not originate from the Nigerian Navy.

He stressed that the Nigerian Navy has not commenced its DSSC recruitment exercise.According to him, members of the public should disregard the notices and avoid falling victim to recruitment fraudsters.

«“The attached DSSC notices are not from the Nigerian Navy and have been circulating all over social media.»«“The Nigerian Navy DSSC recruitment is not out, and when it is, the information will be posted on my page, the official Nigerian Navy website, and official social media pages.

Please do not let anyone scam you,” he said.»The warning comes shortly after the Nigerian Navy announced its 2026 Batch 39 recruitment exercise for the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School.

The Batch 39 recruitment is scheduled to run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, with eligible applicants expected to apply through the Navy’s official recruitment platform.

The Navy has also emphasised that the Basic Training School recruitment process is free of charge, warning applicants not to make payments to anyone claiming to have connections that can facilitate their recruitment.

Eligible applicants for the Batch 39 exercise must be Nigerian citizens by birth, possess a National Identification Number (NIN), and satisfy the prescribed educational, age, physical and medical requirements.

The Navy’s current recruitment information is available through its official recruitment platform, “Join the Nigerian Navy” (https://reference-url-citation.invalid/4).

The Navy’s DSSC recruitment is separate from the Batch 39 Basic Training School recruitment, and prospective DSSC applicants have been advised to wait for an official announcement before submitting applications or making any payments.
