Oyebanji’s Second Term to Bring Greater Development — Inauguration Committee

The second term of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji will usher in greater and faster development across the state, the Chairman of the Second Term Inauguration Planning Committee, Oyeniyi Adebayo, has said.

Adebayo, who is also the Chief of Staff to the Governor, made the declaration on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti while unveiling activities for the governor’s second-term inauguration.

He said the inauguration programme would begin with a Jumat Thanksgiving Service at the Central Mosque, Ado-Ekiti, on Friday, October 2, while the main inauguration ceremony is scheduled for October 16.

Highlighting the administration’s achievements since October 2022, Adebayo said the government had completed and commissioned more than 500 kilometres of inter-city and rural roads, while several others are at various stages of completion.

He also cited the completion and commercial operation of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport, which he said had created opportunities in investment, tourism, trade and agricultural exports.

According to him, electricity has also been extended to parts of Aiyekire and Ekiti East Local Government Areas as well as the Ikogosi tourism belt.

In healthcare, the committee said more than 110 primary healthcare centres and all general hospitals in the state had been renovated and equipped with modern facilities.

The government, it added, had renovated 203 secondary schools and 950 primary schools, established nine ICT laboratories and supported 69,000 students with WAEC examination fees worth N2.158 billion. It also provided free JAMB forms to 12,400 students.

Adebayo said more than 5,000 youths had been engaged in commercial agriculture through the Bring Back the Youth into Agriculture initiative, while various credit facilities and grants had been provided to MSMEs, cooperatives and other beneficiaries.

Looking ahead, he said the second-term administration would focus on consolidating existing programmes, with priority areas including healthcare, electricity, roads, water supply, agriculture, human capital development and economic opportunities.

He disclosed that the government plans to expand rural road development, targeting up to 1,500 kilometres through various interventions and partnerships with development organisations.

The inauguration theme, “The Good Work Continues,” he said, reflects the administration’s commitment to continuity, economic growth and improved welfare for Ekiti residents.

Adebayo also commended the media for its role in bridging the gap between government and the people, urging journalists to continue providing accurate and professional coverage of government policies and programmes.
