The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged assault, abduction and subsequent death of a 45-year-old man, Ogunsakin Sunday, in connection with a land dispute in Afao-Ekiti.

The command said the principal suspect, identified as Rotimi Joseph Olabiowonu, popularly known as “Metilo,” and a suspected member of his gang, Adedoyin Opeyemi, are currently in police custody and undergoing investigation.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the incident, which allegedly occurred on Monday, September 14, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, Metilo and about five other accomplices allegedly arrived at the deceased’s residence in a Toyota bus at about 8:45pm.

The suspects allegedly dragged Sunday out of his residence, assaulted him and forced him into the vehicle before driving him to an undisclosed location.

The police said that while the vehicle was in motion, the suspects allegedly pushed the victim out of the moving bus, causing him to sustain serious head injuries.

The suspects reportedly took him to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) after noticing the severity of his condition.

However, the victim was later pronounced dead by the medical doctor on duty.

Following a report of the incident, operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command commenced investigation, visited the scene and launched efforts to arrest all those allegedly involved.

The police subsequently arrested Metilo and Opeyemi, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other alleged members of the gang who are currently at large.

The Commissioner of Police has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and conduct a comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

CP Falade assured members of the public that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.He also urged residents to remain calm and warned against taking the law into their own hands.

The police advised members of the public to promptly report land disputes, suspicious activities and other criminal incidents to the appropriate authorities.

The command further stressed that land-related disputes should be resolved through lawful and peaceful means rather than violence.The police assured the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally, impartially and in line with the provisions of the law.
