WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results, 61.54% Secure Five Credits Including English and Maths.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, with 61.54 per cent of candidates obtaining at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

The examination body announced the release of the results on Wednesday through its official social media platforms, urging candidates to access their results through the WAEC result-checking portal after generating a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and serial number.

According to WAEC, a total of 1,950,726 candidates sat for the examination, out of which 1,200,514 candidates achieved the minimum benchmark of five credits, including the two core subjects required for admission into higher institutions.

Candidates are required to generate a PIN on the WAEC portal before proceeding to check their results using their examination number and National Identification Number (NIN) on the council’s result-checking platform.

The 2026 WASSCE was conducted between April 21 and June 19 across more than 24,200 secondary schools nationwide, with approximately 1.96 million candidates participating in the examination.

WAEC noted that while the majority of candidates wrote the examination using the traditional pen-and-paper method, a significantly higher number of schools adopted the Computer-Based Testing (CBT) option compared to previous years.

The council had earlier indicated that the results would be released about 45 days after the conclusion of the examination, a timeline it has now fulfilled.

The release of the school candidates’ results comes months after WAEC announced the results of the 2026 First Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates.
