Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for the immediate release of the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sunday Bisi, following reports of his alleged arrest in Ilesa during the ongoing Osun governorship election.

Adeleke made the demand on Saturday in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, and posted on the governor’s official X account.

According to the governor, Bisi was allegedly arrested at his residence in Ilesa shortly after casting his vote in the Osun governorship election.

Adeleke said the PDP chairman was taken to an undisclosed location and that, at the time of his statement, his whereabouts remained unknown.

The governor described the alleged arrest as an abuse of law enforcement and an attack on Nigeria’s democratic process.

«“Information reaching me indicates that Bisi was accosted in his home in Ilesa shortly after he returned after voting, and whisked away to a yet-to-be-known location,” Adeleke said.»

He alleged that the incident was part of a broader attempt to prevent his supporters and party officials from monitoring the collation of results at various centres across Osun State.

Adeleke further alleged that compromised security personnel were working with the All Progressives Congress to interfere with the election process.

However, the governor did not provide evidence to substantiate the allegations.

“This latest sweep on my supporters, I have authoritatively learnt, is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll,” he alleged.

Adeleke described the development as a serious threat to democracy and urged authorities to release Bisi immediately.

He also called for the release of what he described as other “political prisoners” across Osun State.

The governor maintained that elections should allow citizens to freely choose their preferred candidates without intimidation or coercion.

No Security Agency Claims Arrest.

As of the time of reporting, no security agency had publicly claimed responsibility for the alleged arrest of the Osun PDP chairman.

The circumstances surrounding Bisi’s reported arrest, his current whereabouts and the reason for the alleged detention had also not been officially confirmed by security authorities.

The development comes as voting and result-related activities continue across Osun State in the Osun governorship election.
